It is important to make sure everyone is aware of the total cost of breastfeeding including time. This includes politicians, doctors, healthcare workers, parents, and future parents.
Love this! It is so important to normalize breastfeeding and the costs that come with it. I had no idea about the information on opportunity cost! I guess I never really processed how time-consuming the process can be. Wonderful article!
Wow, the point about the opportunity cost of breastfeeding is so important! So often women's domestic/parental labor goes totally unacknowledged. It's really vital to speak candidly about the sacrifices women are expected to make for the good of their families--even if they want to make these choices, it should be recognized that they are still giving something up, whether it be money, career advancement, leisure time, or something else! And it's important to recognize these things so we can advocate for supports like paid parental leave!
I am so interested in the total cost of breastfeeding so I am very interested in that study. Obviously that is a minimum cost as with some of the local and state increases in the US in the minimum wage this cost would be even more. I am curious if readers in other countries have seen any ways that governments have supported time away for breast feeding through monetary payments or additional time off (in countries that don’t have a year plus off for family leave!).

Excellent points on domestic and parental labor.

That study was interesting to me as well. I hope it will help as we advocate for paid leave in the states!
